Jesus is coming again! Are you ready?

"As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent...
Night is coming, when no one can work."

John 9:4 (NKJV)

New Year greetings in the matchless name of the Most High God, Jesus the Christ! I pray this newsletter finds you prospering physically, financially, and spiritually.

I apologize for the long silence (8 months!), but it's a new year, a new newsletter, and a new ministry. Hallelu-YAH!

During the months when we haven't had a newsletter, God has been active among our ministries. In addition to this ministry receiving its official church charter...

  • New Hope Christian Centre in Kenya opened Hope Home for 20 orphans;
  • Church for the Distant Ministries opened School of the Good Shepherd in a slum area of Hyderabad, south India;
  • SAMARPAN Ministry finished the construction work for their residential Bible Training Center in New Delhi, India;
  • Redemption Ministries & Welfare Society planted a new church in Pedakakani, south India;
  • Siloam Evangelical Missions presented a special Christmas program, "Christ Feast", to about 800 Hindu and Muslim not-yet-believers: and
  • All of our ministries were blessed to provide a Christmas program and meal to the needy, orphans, and widows in their communities.

Praise Adonai! I pray this newsletter will bless you as I present some stories and photos of our activities, along with a few humorous tidbits that tickled my funny bone.

Be blessed in Jesus' name!

Your sister & servant in Christ,

of the least of these my brothers you did it to Me.'"

Who 'we' are...

My Redeemer Lives Christian Ministry was founded in 2003 by Rev. Linda Smallwood and is based in the U.S. and south India. We are comprised of several independent missionaries serving the Lord in India, Kenya, Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Our affiliated missionaries' single goal is to bring the love of Jesus Christ and the Salvation message to those who are lost. Many of these ministries serve their communities in Jesus' name through specialized socio-economic ministries to orphans, widows, the elderly, crippled, and the destitute.

The objective of My Redeemer Lives is to raise awareness of these indigenous ministries and their ongoing needs — financially, materially, and spiritually. We also most gladly welcome anyone who would covenant to pray for us. Prayer is the most important gift you can give!

To the world you might be one person,
but to one person you might be the world.

We couldn't do it without you!

I want to take this time to thank the ministry partners who assisted us during 2005, either with your faithful prayers, time and talents, or financial gifts.

Ron & Teresa Abert, Barbara Barton, Beverly (bev-t-boo), Marta Bruckman, Pamela Day, Dianne (Peacelady), Ron & Dianna Dohmann, Carol Englebert, Flora Gedenberg, Charlene Grandt, Michelle Gregg, Janice Hall, Carl Holmes, Shelly Kerney, Bill McKisic, William Muffett, Carole Nafziger, Shelly Navarette, Dianna Pyles, Peg Simanaitis, Georgia Turner, Ruth Wagner

Considering this newsletter goes to more than 6500 people, the list isn't very impressive. But... when I consider what God has done this past year with so few fellow warriors, it points unmistakably to the total sovereignty and 'bigness' of our God. To God be the glory!

THANK YOU, PARTNERS,
for your gifts and your prayers!
We couldn't do it without you!

Would you like to add your name to this list? It's simple. All you have to do is covenant to pray for us regularly. I'm not asking you to give money; that's an issue for God to speak to your heart about. Whether you pray or whether you donate, it's not the number of prayers or the amount of money that matters...

"...for Yahweh sees not as man sees;
for man looks at the outward appearance,
but Yahweh looks at the heart."

1 Samuel 16:7 (WEB)

Imprecise Diction

My credit union recently changed its name from "Oregon Central Credit Union" to "Oregonians Credit Union," which is not significant in itself, but when I received the notice telling me about it, I started thinking about the job I'd had for a year at Oregon Central Credit Union (as it then was) when I was nineteen. It was a dreadful job, and I was awful at it . . . not for lack of effort, but it just wasn't the sort of thing I would ever be good at. However, I did have an advantage over the guy who sat behind me, in that I was able to answer the phone coherently. We were instructed to say: "Oregon Central Credit Union -- can I help you?" In his case, this came out as: "NrgZenCrenknellu?"

When I was working at Nrg Zen Cren, I had a friend whom I would occasionally call at his place of employment, which was "Oregon Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Unit Five." The person who answered the phone there (who was apparently related to the guy sitting behind me) invariably declaimed: "Organ Glucose Bushel Unify." I thought this sounded like a fascinating combination of a metabolic disorder and a farming solidarity movement.

"Ah-h-h-h! This must be heaven!"

How much of God do you want?

"I would like to buy $3 worth of God, please.
Not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep,
but just enough to equal a cup of warm milk
or a snooze in the sunshine.

I don't want enough of Him
to make me love a black man
or pick beets with a migrant.

I want ecstasy, not transformation.
I want the warmth of the womb not a new birth.
I want about a pound of the eternal in a paper sack.

I'd like to buy $3 worth of God, please."

Christmas with the children at the NMC Home

God graciously provided a glorious celebration of Jesus' birth for our orphans. Each of the children received a new outfit, a toy, and their own toothbrush and toothpaste. We also had a birthday cake and a wonderful birthday feast for approximately 100 guests.

Husband in Coma

A woman's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months, yet she had stayed by his bedside every single day.

One day, he motioned for her to come nearer. As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, "You know what? You have been with me all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business failed, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you stayed right here. When my health started failing, you were still by my side.........You know what?"

"What, dear?" she gently asked, smiling as her heart began to fill with warmth.

"I think you're bad luck!"

Jesus is in Bohol, Philippines

Pastor Fernando Impang and his wife, Madelene, are always eager to serve their friends and neighbors. During 2005, they served more than 1200 meals during their weekly feeding program. And it didn't stop there. They have also had many needy people living with them, they built a parsonage for a homeless family, and they gave pre-packaged dry food to every person who had a need.

Arranging Your Mind

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"
Philippians 4:4

Several years ago there was a 92-year-old Christian woman who was legally blind. In spite of her limitation, she was always neatly dressed, with her hair carefully brushed and her makeup tastefully applied. Each morning she would meet the new day with eagerness.

After her husband of 70 years died, it became necessary for her to go to a nursing home where she could receive proper care. On the day of the move, a helpful neighbor drove her there and guided her into the lobby. Her room wasn't ready, so she waited patiently in the lobby for several hours.

When an attendant finally came for her, she smiled sweetly as she maneuvered her walker to the elevator. The staff member described her room to her, including the new curtains that had been hung on the windows. "I love it," she declared. "But Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen your room yet," the attendant replied. "That doesn't have anything to do with it," she said. "Happiness is something you choose. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how it's arranged. It's how I arrange my mind."

The happiness of your life depends on
the quality of your thoughts.

I Am Loved!

I am loved, I am loved, I can risk loving you,
For the one who knows me best loves me most.
I am loved, you are loved, won't you please take my hand?
We are free to love each other, we are loved.

All I had to bring was imperfection,
There was so much more I lacked than I possessed.
I could hardly comprehend His offer:
I’d give all I had, He’d give the rest!

I said, "If You knew, You wouldn't want me,
My scars are hidden by the face I wear."
He said, "My child, My scars go deeper,
It was love for you that put them there."

Forgiven. I repeat it, I'm forgiven!
Clean before my Lord, I freely stand.
Forgiven, I can dare to love my brother,
Forgiven, I reach out to take your hand.

We are free to love each other,
We are loved!

"Thank you!" from Pedakakani

Pastor Nireekshana Rao and his wife, Swarupa, were able to provide new clothes for 33 orphans and poor children in Pedakakani, south India. In addition to sharing a meal and birthday cake with about 60 people (mostly Hindus), they also played games and distributed toys, games and prizes to each child.

Silent Night?

For an upcoming Christmas program, the Sunday School teacher asked two of the boys if they'd be willing to play two verses of "Silent Night" on their flutes.

One of the boys was genuinely perplexed and didn't know what to do. The teacher asked him what was troubling him. With tears streaming down his cheeks, he said, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Anderson, but I only know the first verse!"

Merry Christmas from Kenya!

Our great and awesome God provided a nice Christmas celebration for 30 needy and orphan children who each received a new T-shirt as well as a nutritious snack. As Pastor Peter Mwangi wrote, "Every church member went home with something to make him/her smile."

A winter forecast

It was October, and the Native Americans on a remote reservation asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. But being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is the coming winter going to be cold?"

"It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold," the meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again. "Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?"

"Yes," the man at the National Weather Service again replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter."

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find. Two weeks later he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely," the man replied. "It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters ever."

"How can you be so sure?" the chief asked. The weather man replied, "People are collecting firewood like crazy."

"Christ Feast" fed to unbelievers

Pastor Silvi Siloam and his church members hosted a special "Christ Feast" on 18 December to about 800 not-yet-believers. Pastor Silvi wrote, "We invited 250 families for this program and about 800 attended." It was a night of good food, good fellowship, entertainment, and the clear proclaiming of the Gospel message. Pastor Silvi plans to make this an annual event.

The Christmas flea

A Sunday School teacher had been relating the Christmas story to her class and asked the children to draw pictures of the nativity scene and color them. As she walked around the room admiring the children's handiwork, she noticed one small boy had drawn a strange-looking item.

The teacher asked the boy to explain why Joseph was holding a thin black wire that trailed to the floor with a small black dot on the end. The boy replied that the black wire was a leash and the tiny black speck on the end was the flea she had mentioned in the story.

"What flea?" asked the teacher.

The boy replied "You said that Joseph had a dream and was told to take the baby and FLEE to Egypt!"

A new orphanage in Tanzania??

God has birthed a great burden in Pastor Innocent Yogusa in Tanzania to build an orphanage and enlarge the Ramah Nursery School where he already cares for more than 25 refugee children.

Following his visit to one poor urban area, he writes: "I found many children who are orphans and as I asked the residents and one of my closest co-workers, I was told that they are all victims of HIV-AIDS as their parents died of the sickness. It is not to mean that they are also infected (but who knows?), but they are in a very critical condition as life is very hard for them without any kind of care."

He has received a wonderful gift: a large piece of land on which to build a new nursery school and orphanage. But, he needs about $250 to process the registrations, or he risks losing the land to someone else. Can you help?

Because of the costs for scanning and the lack of up-to-date computer facilities, he is not able to provide photos at this time. We should have some photos for next month's newsletter.

Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble.
But since the power of prayer is in the One who hears it
and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference.

Please pray for Zebron Chivunga

At the time of this writing, I have received word that my 'son' Zebron, the Founder & Administrator of Manyando Youth Action Community School in Zambia, has lost his precious wife and help-mate, Susan. Please keep him, their two children, and the school in your prayers, as this is a very heavy burden for all of them to bear.
